Supporting our teams, coaches & athletes
Changing of the guard. Q&A with Athletic Director Kevin Flegner
How do you plan to work together with the Booster Club and parents?
I am super excited to work again with a booster club whose mission is to support our student-athletes, coaches and all of our programs. Working with one booster club allows for cohesiveness and great collaboration working for the same common goals. As for parents, I hope to be very visible and approachable. People need to know that I will always make a decision based on what best for the school and our programs. I hope we can build a sense of pride and always show the best sportsmanship wherever we are playing. When people say Oconomowoc the next sentence should always be what a classy school/community it is.
What is your vision for the OHS Athletic Program?
My vision here at Oconomowoc is to build upon all the great things that are happening within the school and community. My department will strive to build school/community culture that will be positive at all times. I feel branding is a big part of building school/community support. Honoring the Athletes that came before us and inspiring the future is crucial in building a positive culture.
What are you most looking forward to this season?
Looking forward to getting to know all the coaches and help make their programs even better. My favorite part of this job is watching our kids perform at a high level on game days after putting all that work in at practice. Win or lose our kids will always compete and be humble.
What are some of the big accomplishments/projects we are working towards for 2016/17?
The first year I plan to look closely into all the programs needs and or wants to make sure they have what they need to compete at a high level. One of the most important things on the list is to build storage and organize current areas so that all programs have a place to store their equipment and inventory. I also want to get to know all the students and let them know how important they are and that being responsible and taking ownership in everything they do will help them become successful in life.
What big news is there within the conference?
I feel there is a lot of excitement with Oconomowoc moving into the Classic 8 in 2017. With that said the Little Ten has been an excellent conference and with this potentially being the last year I want our kids, coaches, and community to enjoy the ride and finish on a positive note.
