OSBC Donates $13,500 For Purchase of Two Power Pack Stations at the PDC

The OSBC Board of Directors at its June meeting approved donating $13,500 to the Oconomowoc High School athletic department for the purchase of two additional Power Pack stations at the PDC. An additional station was purchased from athletic department funds. Funds for the two stations come from community support of various OSBC fund-raising initiatives.

The Power Packs provide a wide range of training options and safety features. A list of these features is below.

Explosive/Olympic exercises performed on wood – dispersion of energy and forces away from the body. No rebound effect of forces having to be absorbed by the body (joints, spine) – wood acts as a sponge to absorb those forces which equals less impact injuries such as stress fractures.

Organization & Efficiency of weight room – allows multiple athletes/students to be performing exercises at the same time. This reduces standing and waiting. More structured classes/training sessions as all athletes are engaged.

Teaching & Coaching Technique – allows coaches to position themselves to monitor, teach, or correct multiple athletes/students at one time. Constantly reinforcing proper technique and safe training practices to ensure that our student-athletes are training properly. (Cal Picture below)

Safety & Hygiene of Facility are improved – due to the organization for supplementary equipment (such as bars, clips, plate, etc) accident possibilities & liabilities are reduced because everything has a spot. Furthermore the traffic & flow of the facility is more efficient and safe as student-athletes know how to operate and use the facility more efficiently reducing accident possibilities and  liabilities further. Custodial and Maintenance staff are able to clean or fix equipment/facility more effectively and thoroughly thus reducing possibilities of harmful and sometimes catastrophic diseases that can be associated with fitness facilities, such as staph infections (MRSA).

Longevity of Equipment – the construction of the power racks is built to last, highly durable (10-year warranty). Our weight room gets more use and the stress on the equipment is greater than any health club, fitness center, collegiate/professional weight room. Therefore it is imperative that we invest in products at are high durable and will withstand the test of time and benefit student-athletes for years to come – which these power racks will.

Jack Bub Memorial Golf Outing Raises $10,000 For Cooney Sports Programs

Dr. Jerry Adler watches one of his tee shots soar down a fairway

The annual OSBC-hosted Jack Bub Memorial Gold Outing, held June 11, at Paganica Golf Course, drew more than 115 golfers and raised more than $10,000 for Cooney sports programs and activities.

The event, one of the club’s major fund-raising activities, was held on a perfect, sunny day for golf. Chad Vande Zande and Bob Aackerman were again co-chairs for the event.

Each golfer paid $95 to participate. Included in the fee were 18 holes of golf with a cart, drinks, prizes, lunch, and dinner.

As always, with events like this, they could not be held and would not be successful with the generous support of sponsors. This year, as it was last year, First Bank Financial Centre was the naming sponsor. Dr. Gerry Adler was the dinner sponsor, and Culvers was the lunch sponsor. Affiliated Products sponsored the beverage cart and Jack Safro Ford and Ewald Motors ponsored holes-in-one.

Tina McKandes, the OSBC vice president during the 2011-2012 school year, has been elected as the club’s 2012-2013 president. She succeeds Jim Lamp, also a former club vice president.

McKandes’ election came at the May meeting of the club’s board of directors. A tireless volunteer for the club, McKandes has been a highly visible member of the board, often spearheading a club event or activity.

Most recently she led a group of club members volunteering their time to sell hot dogs and refreshment’s at the dedication of the YMCA at Pabst Farms Miracle Field. Proceeds from the sales went to the Miracle Field campaign.

Just Sew Sports Named OSBC Spirit Wear Vendor

Oconomowoc’s Just Sew Sports was named the OSBC’s official spirit wear vendor for the 2012-2013 on a vote by the club’s board at its June meeting. Just Sew Spirits has been the vendor for several years and its established working relationship with the club, its status as an Oconomowoc-based vendor, and willingness to assist the club on special occasions were cited as factors in the decision. Just Sew Sports owner Bob _____ and his son ____ appeared at the June meeting to express the firm’s interest in continuing to work with the club.

While OSBC promotes the sales of spirit wear through Just Sew Sports, no OHA athletes or teams are obligated to do so. Last year Cooney supporters purchased just  under $5,000 in spirit wear from Just Sew Sports which frequently has a tent or similar presence at OHS sporting events.
